The Millers stories by Mildred Martin are now classics of Christian childhood, and well loved for their homeliness and appeal. This is non-confrontational instruction in righteousness, in the context of a godly, but all too real family. The mother and father model headship superbly, and the children’s consciences are developing nicely, with bumps on the way. These stories come from the Mennonite brethren, so large families and simple living are the norm. Someone is always holding the baby. There are always meal preparations underway somewhere, and chores to be done with a glad heart. Dad leads family worship to pull things together at the end of the day. Each chapter stands alone within the overall story. The Miller family grows (in more than one way) as the books are read in order.
